How do the legalities work? For you to legalise your relationship there are specific ‘Declaratory and Contracting’ words that must be used in front of a registrar
Declaratory Words Marriage - "I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I (your name) may not be joined in matrimony to (partner’s name)" Civil Partnerships “I declare that I know of no legal reason why we may not register as each other’s Civil Partner. I understand that on signing this document, we will be forming a Civil Partnership with each other.”
Contracting Words Marriage "I call up these persons here present to witness that I (your name) do take thee (partner’s name) to be my lawful wedded wife (or husband)" Civil Partnership I invite you all to witness now, as *** and **** confirm the promises they have made today and commit themselves to a legally binding relationship by signing the Civil Partnership schedule. This formality can be dealt with at a Registry Office at any time, or a Registrar can attend your celebration (at a cost). More and more people are now choosing to separate the legal registering of their partnership and the celebration of this commitment to each other.
